The Three Day Rule- One of the more popular rules about dating concerns calling a girl back after getting her number. This is the three day rule which states that in order not to look desperate, a guy should wait for three days before calling a girl. This rule became popular because it was referred to in some movies and other works of pop culture.
The idea behind the rule is actually a good one. There are several reasons why you shouldn’t call a girl right away after getting her number. For example, let’s say that you got a girl’s number after meeting her at a club. You call after you get home which is at about 2am. How does that make you look? Some girls might be flattered by the attention, but let me assure you that no one is going to think well of you after you do that. That just seems so desperate. Chances are you’re drunk or she might be drunk and it is kind of hard to make a good impression when alcohol is kind of involved in the matter. They might think that you don’t have a life, that you don’t have anything interesting to do that you find the time to call her right away. Even worse, she might think that you are a potential stalker or something along that line.
What’s Wrong with the Three Day Rule- As mentioned there is nothing wrong with sticking with the idea behind the three day rule. The main problem with it is that waiting for three days is just a little too much. There is nothing wrong with showing a girl that you are interested. After all she knows that already when you asked for her number. There is nothing wrong with calling her the next day and then telling her that you’ve had a great time. If you are calling her after your first date then don’t set another one yet. It is enough to just touch bases with her.
Sticking with the three day rule is kind of narrow and shallow really. Just imagine what a girl would think of you if she realizes that you are using a dating rule on her. You have to assume that a girl has heard of that rule before. That might indicate a lack of self-confidence on your part. If you really like a girl, then forget about rules. A real guy sets his own rules.
So When Should I Really Call Her- The best advice that I can give in this regards is to just go with your feelings. If you really like a girl then call her as soon as it is not going to be inconvenient for her to answer. If you get a voice-mail then leave a message. If you want to go out with her then ask her to. It really is not a good idea to consider dating to be a game that you have to play against a girl.
Other Dating Mistakes- There are a lot of other dating mistakes that you can commit. Some of these might not be as obvious as others. You might be doing some of these, thinking that they are really great tactics in order to catch a girl’s interest when in fact you are just turning her off.
Confidence is Okay But Too Much Might Seem Arrogance- Okay so you know that confidence is important but displaying too much of it can be just as big a problem as not having any of it. There is no problem with displaying your best during your first dates but you have got to know when to stop talking about your accomplishments and possessions. Some girls might be impressed with material stuff some might not. It is better to assume that your date is not attracted to it. Besides displaying some material capability on your part when your date least expects it might convey some understated class which is always classy.
Empathizing with Women Problems- Empathizing with her problems is okay up to a certain point, but telling her that you understand her problem and her situation is not a good move. Why? It’s because you don’t. You’re a guy and you can never fully understand women problems just as girls wouldn’t be able to fully grasp the issues that you are facing.
Not Listening- We have all experienced talking with someone who is obviously not listening to a thing that we are saying. It’s annoying. That person gave you the feeling that he or she does not really care about what you’re saying or about you in general. When you go out on a date you have to make a conscious effort to listen and to pay attention w\to what your date is saying. That is not just out of politeness but because you can use it to find some clues about her personality from what she is saying.
Trying to Be Funny- They always say that humor is one of the best traits and that girls find funny guys irresistible but trying to be the comedian on your first date out might not be the smartest approach that you can try. You are running the risk of appearing to be a clown and there are few things that are worse than that. Just reserve your humor until you have gotten to know her a little better. Try to find out if her humor is just like yours.
Checking Out Other Girls- It is okay to admire the good looks of girls. What is not okay is to do so while you are with a date. You can really come out as a jerk if you do this. Just think about how your date would feel if she catches you eying some other girl in the room.
Being Boring- Sometimes men fail to understand that girls have a different plane of interest from them. Try to hold back your passion about cars and tinkering with mechanical stuff until she shows some enthusiasm about them herself. The same thing should be true with other interests of yours.
