Old Romance Movies

They don’t make them like they used to. We here that a lot and most of the time the complaint is uncalled for when you really think about it. But I guess anyone would agree with me when I say that it is exactly the case when it comes to romantic movies. Old romance movies just has that touch to them that can never be achieved by today’s filmmakers. I really don’t know what to call that quality but there is a certain feel to it.

I have come up here with what in my opinion are some of the most romantic movies of all time. Now as I have said this list is purely based on my own view of what a romantic movie is. In no way am I claiming that this is an authoritative listing. But since I have watched a lot of movies I could say that you can trust that everything included n the list here is well worth seeing.

Casablanca-This is an all time American favorite. A classic that has been beloved for decades. Set in the turmoil of World War II, Casablanca stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. They provide an onscreen chemistry that has rarely been matched and never equalled in the long history of Hollywood. It never fails to give me a teary eye whenever I watch the ending that is so bittersweet. “Here’s Looking at you, kid!”

Breakfast at Tiffany’s- This is one of those movies that were made when stars were really larger than life. Starring the lovely Audrey Hepburn, this movie is about a writer and woman who lives off her charm, and looks and how they fall in love with each other. This is such a sweet movie to watch and it doesn’t seem to matter that it was first shown in 1961.

Gone with the Wind- No list of the best romantic movies wold be complete without this classic from 1939. This Academy Award winning film is based on the novel of the same title. It is about a woman who denies her love for a man and losses him in the process. With the Civil War as a back drop this movie is thrilling to say the least.

My Fair Lady – This fairy tale like movie tells the story of how street smart girl became a polished and elegant lady who could mingle with royalty. She is aided in this endeavor by a professor who ultimately falls in love with her. This movie is amazingly entertaining and is an adaptation of a classic stage play.

There are dozens of other great romantic movies that I could add to this list but these are my all time favorites. If you still haven’t seen all of them go ahead and take the time out now. I assure you that once you are through you will be agreeing with me that they don’t make romantic movies like they used to. You will be a convert to classic films even before you know it.
